El saxofonista Charlie Parker nació el 29 de agosto de 1920 en Kansas City. Su incomparable forma de tocar le valió el mote de “Bird”, ya que sus solos irrumpían en el escenario como un ave rapaz bordeando cada nota con tremenda maestría. También fue uno de los iniciadores del singular estilo conocido como be-bop, que conquistó en la escena neoyorkina en la década de los cuarenta.
